Why We Bought One
Eight weeks of real work can show up as zero pounds.
You train hard for two months and the scale reads the same number. It is easy to decide none of it worked. But a scale reports one thing, total weight. It cannot tell fat from muscle.
A tape measure is better, but the result depends on who holds it and where it sits on the body.
A 3D scan captures the same points, from the same position, every time. That makes the change between two scans easier to trust. Below, we show how much, and where the limits are.

What The Scan Gives You
What a 3D body composition scan shows you.
You stand still. An infrared camera captures thousands of images as the platform turns, and the software builds your results automatically. No one takes manual measurements.
01 / Composition
Body fat percentage, fat mass and lean mass
The split the scale cannot show you. The platform has a built-in scale, so your weight is recorded in the same visit. Like every body composition method, these values are estimates. See the accuracy section below.
02 / Measurements
21 circumferences, from neck to calf
Styku's Summary Report lists 21 circumference measurements, grouped into arms and neck, trunk and hips, and legs. There are three separate waist readings, narrowest, abdominal and lower, so a change in one part of the midsection does not get averaged away.
03 / The 3D model
Your body, rotatable, side by side with your last scan
Each scan produces a 3D model you can rotate. Styku's software puts two scans next to each other so you can see the change, not just read it.
04 / The trend
A record that builds with every scan
Styku builds scan-to-scan comparison and change charts into its software. Your scan history is kept in the Styku app, including scans from any Styku location, so each new scan adds to the line.
05 / The report
Summary, Scan and Progress reports
Styku produces three report types: a summary of your key metrics from one scan, a detailed breakdown of one scan, and a Progress report that compares two or more scans over time. Your report is sent to the email address you give us.
06 / The app
Your results on your phone
The Styku app for iOS and Android shows your 3D model, weight, body fat percentage, lean mass, BMI, waist and common circumferences, and your scan history. Sign in with the email you gave us at your scan.
After Your Scan
Your results, read with a trainer.
When the scan finishes, your 3D model and numbers come up on the laptop beside the scanner. We go through what changed since your last scan, and what it means for your training.
Your Results
This is what your scan looks like.
A rotatable 3D model, before and after views, circumference readings and body composition, on your laptop and your phone.
Sample results from Styku's software, shown with example data, not a real member. Styku is not a medical device; its estimates are for general fitness and wellness.
The Process
Five steps. Then back to training.
No needles, no water tank, no sitting in a pod. Styku describes the scan as contactless and says there are no electrodes.
1
Give us your email
Styku sends your report and signs you in to the app with the email address you give us. Use one you check.
2
Wear form-fitting clothing
Styku says the scanner needs a clear, consistent view of your body. There is no need to fast or to avoid eating, drinking or working out first.
3
Step on and stand tall
Stand in the center of the platform, facing the camera tower. Feet about hip-width apart, arms slightly away from your sides, eyes straight ahead. The software confirms your pose before the scan starts.
4
One rotation
The platform turns 360 degrees while an infrared camera captures thousands of images. The scan runs roughly 30 to 40 seconds. Stay still and breathe normally.
5
Read it together
Styku says results process in under two minutes. Your 3D model and measurements appear on screen, and we walk you through them.
For clean comparisons between scans, Styku recommends scanning under consistent conditions: the same time of day, similar hydration and similar clothing.

Limits worth knowing
- The study used an earlier Styku model, the S100. Styku says its newer scanners use a different sensor.
- Styku says its body composition model is validated for adults 18 and older, and that results may vary more for very lean, very muscular or very high body fat individuals.
- Styku states the scanner is not approved by the FDA and has not been evaluated for medical use.
- If you are pregnant, Styku says the scan is physically safe but the body composition numbers will not be accurate.

Who Gets Value From It
Anyone who has been discouraged by a scale.
Recomposition
Losing fat and adding muscle at the same time is the case a scale handles worst. A scan estimates fat mass and lean mass separately, so you can see both moving.
Starting over
A first scan is a baseline. Everything after it is measured against a real starting point instead of a memory of one.
Plateaued
When the weight stops moving, the scan can show whether something still is. If nothing is, that tells us to look at the programming.
Training somewhere else
You do not need a membership. Book a single scan for $50 and see where you stand.

Contact us →How much does a 3D body scan cost at The Compound Gym? +
Members get one scan every month as part of membership. A free consultation includes a scan. If you are not a member and only want a scan, a single scan is $50. If you join within 30 days, the $50 is credited in full toward your first month of membership. Membership details and current pricing are on the membership page.
Do I have to be a member to get scanned? +
No. Book a free consultation and a scan comes with it, or book a single scan on its own for $50.
If I pay for a scan and then join, does the $50 count? +
Yes. If you join within 30 days of your scan, the $50 is credited in full toward your first month of membership.
How long does a scan take? +
Styku lists the scan at 30 to 40 seconds. You stand still on a platform that turns 360 degrees while an infrared camera captures your body. Styku says the results process in under two minutes.
What should I wear, and do I need to fast? +
Wear form-fitting clothing so the scanner has a clear view of your body shape. Styku says there is no requirement to fast, avoid exercise, or avoid eating or drinking before a scan. For cleaner comparisons, wear similar clothing and scan at a similar time of day each time.
What do I get afterward? +
A 3D model of your body, plus weight, body fat percentage, lean mass, BMI, waist and other circumference measurements. Styku emails you a report, and the Styku app on iOS and Android keeps your scan history and shows change from scan to scan. Every new scan lines up next to the last one.
How accurate is it? Is it as accurate as DEXA? +
It is a different test, and no body composition method is exact, DEXA included. In a 2022 study in Clinical Nutrition, an earlier Styku model was compared with DEXA in 188 adults. Fat mass agreement was 0.95 on a scale where 1.0 would be exact agreement, and percent body fat differed from DEXA by 1.9 points on average, with a standard deviation of 4.5. Repeat scans of the same person were very close to each other. That is why we use the scan to track your own change over time. Styku says its body composition model is validated for adults 18 and older.
Is the scan safe? +
Styku says the scanner uses an infrared depth sensor and emits no radiation and no electrical current, and that nothing touches you. If you are pregnant or have a medical condition, check with your doctor first. Styku notes that body composition numbers will not be accurate during pregnancy.
Is it a medical test? +
No. It is a fitness measurement and tracking tool. Styku states the scanner is not approved by the FDA and has not been evaluated for medical use. It does not diagnose anything. For anything health related, talk to your doctor.
How is this different from an InBody scan? +
Styku says InBody-style machines send a small electrical current through the body, and that those readings are sensitive to hydration, sweating and recent exercise. Styku uses a camera and never touches you. Styku also says the two methods are not directly comparable, so compare a Styku scan with another Styku scan.
