Personal Training Near Hidden Hills, CA: What a Private Session at The Compound Looks Like

By Paul Wassily, The Compound Gym

If you live in Hidden Hills, you may already have a home gym. The equipment is rarely the hard part. What most people want is a coach, a room with nobody in it, and a reason to show up. That is what one-on-one training at The Compound is built around. Here is what it looks like, from the drive over to the first session.

How far is The Compound from Hidden Hills?

The Compound is on Ventura Boulevard in Woodland Hills, a short drive east of Hidden Hills. Plenty of our members come from the western end of the Valley and the Calabasas side, and they fit training in before work, between meetings, or late in the evening on the way home.

Because members have key fob access 24 hours a day, six days a week, the drive is on your schedule, not ours. If you would rather train at 5am or 10pm, the door opens for you. We are closed Sundays, which is when the floor is deep cleaned and the equipment is serviced.

If you are coming from the Calabasas side, our page on the private gym near Calabasas covers what members from that end of the Valley tell us they were looking for.

What happens in a first session with Paul?

A first session with Paul is a conversation first and a workout second. Before anything gets lifted, we talk about what you are training for, what you have done before, what hurts, and what your week realistically allows.

It usually goes in three steps.

The tour. You come in, see the room and meet Paul. It takes about fifteen minutes, and nobody pressures you to sign that day. Ask whatever you want. The awkward questions are the useful ones.

The first session. Some easy movement while Paul watches how you move, where you are tight, and what your body is ready for. It is not a test and there is nothing to pass. Most people leave thinking they could have done more. That is on purpose. Going too hard in week one is the most common way people lose week two.

The program. From there, Paul builds your training around your goals, your schedule and your starting point. Sessions begin once you have signed your training agreement and waivers.

Paul has been coaching in Woodland Hills since 2003. He is a master trainer with more than twenty years of coaching experience, and every program he writes is one-on-one. Nothing is pulled from a template. You can read more about how he works on the personal training page.

Nutrition comes with it. Personal training at The Compound includes nutrition coaching, because training without addressing what you eat is half the job.

Why does a capped membership matter for one-on-one training?

A capped membership matters because a one-on-one session only works if the equipment and the space are there when you need them. In a crowded gym, a training session turns into a waiting session. You plan a sequence, then spend half of it standing next to a rack someone else is using.

Membership at The Compound is capped on purpose. The room stays quiet, nothing is a queue, and your session runs the way Paul planned it. For people who are private by nature, it also means training without an audience.

A few other things worth knowing:

  • Towel service and private showers, so you can train before work and go straight to the office.
  • A clean floor. The Sunday closure exists so the room gets a real deep clean every week.
  • No contracts. Membership is month-to-month.

What it costs

Membership is $99.99 per month, month-to-month, no long-term contract, no initiation fees, no annual fees. There is a one-time $50 key fob charge when you join. Cancellation requires 30 days written notice. Personal training is priced separately, based on how often you train. You can see the details on our membership page.
