Calabasas to The Compound: 10 Minutes Down the 101

From most points in Calabasas, the drive to The Compound is around 5 miles and runs about 10 minutes off-peak. Take Las Virgenes/Mulholland Highway south to the 101 east, exit at De Soto Avenue, and head south to Ventura Blvd. The gym is at the corner of Ventura and Aura, on the south side of the street. Parking is available directly in front of the building.

Members come in from every Calabasas neighborhood including Hidden Hills, Mountain Park, the Oaks, Old Topanga, and the Calabasas Highlands. Most members report a 10-15 minute commute door-to-door, depending on traffic and time of day. The drive is short enough that working out before or after the workday doesn't blow up your schedule.

What The Compound Is

The Compound is a private gym, not a commercial gym and not a class-based studio. Membership is capped at a number that's calibrated to the size of the floor and the equipment count, which means you don't wait for a rack at peak hours. Access is by key fob, so the only people on the floor are members and the trainers operating there.

The model is built around individual training, not group classes. There are no group fitness classes scheduled on the floor. The space is designed for serious lifters, runners, and people working with personal trainers, not for high-volume foot traffic.

Why Calabasas Residents Choose The Compound

Calabasas has a strong local fitness culture, and most residents have plenty of options closer to home. The members who make the 10-minute drive to The Compound tend to fall into a few specific groups.

  • Privacy-conscious professionals.Calabasas has a meaningful population of executives, performers, and public-facing professionals who don't want to train on a crowded gym floor. The capped membership and key fob access solve that.
  • Serious lifters and runners. The Compound is built around individual training, not classes. For members training with structured programs (strength training, hypertrophy, marathon prep, sport-specific work), the equipment quality and floor space matter more than amenities.
  • People who hate crowds. The biggest commercial gyms near Calabasas can be packed at 6 AM and 6 PM. The Compound's capped membership means equipment is available even at peak hours.
  • Members who already train with Paul. Many of Paul's personal training clients have followed him from previous training environments. The Compound is where Paul trains, so for clients who want to keep working with him, this is the place.
  • Anyone who's price-sensitive at the high end.Equinox in Calabasas runs around $250 a month before enrollment fees and any add-ons. The Compound delivers a comparable or better training environment at $89.99 with no add-ons. The math is significant over twelve months.

How The Compound Compares to Other Gyms Near Calabasas

Calabasas residents have several gym options to choose from. The categories break down like this:

Calabasas Gym Options, 2026

How The Compound fits in the local market.

Option Type Approx Monthly
The Compound Private gym, capped membership, individual training focus $89.99 flat
Premium commercial gyms (Equinox category) Uncapped, multi-amenity, classes included $200 to $260+
Standard commercial gyms (LA Fitness, 24 Hour Fitness) Uncapped, high-volume, classes and kids club $30 to $55
Boutique class studios (Calabasas Fit, Craft Boxing) Class-based, often per-class or unlimited monthly $25 to $40 per class · $200+/mo unlimited
Country club fitness (Calabasas Country Club) Bundled with golf or country club membership Varies, typically high

The Compound sits in a category most local options don't compete in: a true private gym with capped membership at a mid-tier price point. Premium commercial gyms cost 2-3x more for an uncapped, more crowded experience. Standard commercial gyms are cheaper but high-volume and impersonal. Boutique studios are class-driven, not training-floor oriented. The Compound is the option for people who want a focused training environment without the overhead of luxury amenities or the friction of a chain gym.
